Hip-hop doesn’t forget, and 50 Cent definitely doesn’t stay quiet. The rap mogul once again turned online drama into entertainment, this time aiming his jokes at Jim Jones and the crew behind the Let’s Rap About It podcast. What started as a rumor quickly became viral content, proving that trolling is still part of rap culture’s DNA.
The moment followed recent claims by Cam’ron, who suggested that Jim Jones was behind on rent for the studio used to record the podcast. While Jim Jones addressed the situation in his own way, 50 Cent chose humor instead, jumping into the conversation with videos that instantly caught the internet’s attention.
For longtime rap and hip-hop fans, this felt familiar. Old tensions resurfaced, jokes flew freely, and social media did what it does best: turn a quick clip into a full-blown moment.
50 Cent turns podcast drama into viral comedy
50 Cent shared alleged footage showing the Let’s Rap About It podcast crew dealing with what appeared to be a power outage. The clip was soundtracked by Teddy Pendergrass’ “Turn off the Lights,” setting the tone for the joke as people walked through the studio using flashlights.
“LOL,” Fif wrote alongside the clip. “[Cam’ron] turned the lights off, them bum ass [ninja emoji] in there with flash flights.”
He didn’t stop there. In a follow-up post, he shared another video featuring cartoon eyes struggling to see in the dark, adding, “They in there like all we got is us,” before joking, “LOL WE ALL WE GOT!”
Later, 50 Cent leaned fully into comedy by posting a short Instagram skit. While pretending to shoot a commercial for Branson Cognac, the lights suddenly cut out. “What the f*ck?” says Fif. “What happened with the lights, man?”
The posts quickly spread across rap and hip-hop social media, drawing laughs and reactions from fans who know 50 Cent never misses a chance to troll.
Jim Jones didn’t let the jokes slide either. Shortly after 50 Cent’s posts started making rounds, Jones appeared to clap back on Instagram by sharing a video of himself sitting in the studio in near darkness, surrounded by candles.
Leaning into the moment instead of dodging it, he captioned the clip with humor, telling fans they “don’t wanna miss this episode” of the “Jones Improvement” show. The playful response suggested Jones was in on the joke, turning the trolling into content of his own and keeping the rap and hip-hop back-and-forth alive online.
Old rap beef never really dies
The jokes land harder because this isn’t new territory. 50 Cent and Jim Jones have been at odds since the G-Unit and Diplomats feud in the early 2000s. Their rivalry has flared up repeatedly over the years, most recently tied to criticism surrounding a Diddy documentary.
Cam’ron also added fuel earlier this month when he joked, “How u worried about me when ya heat off and rent due,” triggering a heated back-and-forth between the Dipset rappers.
While Jim Jones has largely brushed off the jokes, 50 Cent continues to treat the situation as entertainment, even ignoring a freestyle aimed at him. In rap and hip-hop, silence can speak just as loudly as bars.
At this point, fans know the pattern. Whenever there’s an opening, these veterans know how to turn tension into content, and the internet is always watching.
