After nearly 30 years, Aerosmith's presence at Disney World is gone. Instead, visitors will get a new ride that features the Muppets. In other words, instead of Steven Tyler's rattle, Disney goers will get more of Kermit's nasally twang. Which is better? You can make the choice.
Last year, Disney announced that the Aerosmith-themed Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, which opened in 1999, would be removed and the site where it stood would be rebranded with a Muppets-themed coaster. Will it be less exciting? Probably.
The Aerosmith version had a pre-ride video that featured Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and then on the ride itself, one was bombarded with a medley of tunes, such as "Dude (Looks Like a Lady," "Walk This Way," and "Sweet Emotion." The ride reached speeds of 60 mph.
Disney World officially closes Aerosmith roller coaster in favor of Muppets-themed one
No speed for the Muppets version has yet been announced, but one would logically think the ride would be slower. Going extremely fast with lots of screaming doesn't seem very Muppets-like. Of course, Disney missed an opportunity to do some promotion by seeing if people could scream like Steven Tyler while on the ride.
The Muppets ride might be a bit more exciting than at first glance, however. It will have a musical theme that focuses on the faux band Electric Mayhem, which featured Animal on drums. This could mean that the new coaster is going to be a lot faster than one might assume. That's the hope.
The Aerosmith coaster has already been boarded up, and where it goes next is anyone's guess. Perhaps, it will simply be destroyed. That would be a shame, though. Disney could probably sell off parts of it and make some good money, not that the mouse-eared company needs it.
The Muppets ride, beside Animal's band, will feature Kermit, Scooter, and, of course, Dr. Teeth, as well as the penguin animatronics that were part of the MuppetVision 3D Show. In other words, the ride replacing Aerosmith's could end up being anything, but likely not a 60 mph thriller. The kids wouldn't want that.
