Black Veil Brides had a blunt response to Yungblud savior talk

What was said.

Yungblud might seem to be on the rise in the ranks of rock music, but he seemingly has had two careers so far. He isn't new to the scene. He began releasing songs in 2017.

It is how he has approached his career that is slightly odd, though. He seems to mostly need to collaborate with others (such as, questionably, Machine Gun Kelly) and to cover Ozzy Osbourne and David Bowie tunes to become extremely popular. How much of his relative success is his own, and how much is borrowed from others?

What he isn't is the "savior" of rock and roll, and to be clear, he has never called himself that. Instead, Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides was asked about Yungblud by a reader in a new issue of Metal Hammer. Biersack took the high road in his answer.

Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides pushes pause on Yungblud savior talk

"I’m not deeply invested in (Yungblud's) material," Biersack said, "but people just want to talk shit about young rock star-types. It doesn’t help when headlines are calling him a ‘savior.' He’s not calling himself that! The music industry has a never-ending turnover of ‘Saviors of Rock’n’Roll'...It’s stupid to label anyone a savior of a gigantic rock world that still exists. You’ve got rock bands headlining stages for 100,000 people."

Biersack added, "Yungblud is very talented."

Anyone or any site calling Yungblud a "savior" is simply wrong. One might question those entities' qualifications for even commenting on the genre. That isn't to say Yungblud isn't capable of entertaining, but he was able to use, for better or worse, his appearance at the Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath farewell show to give his career new momentum.

He has also created a song with Aerosmith, so at least whoever is managing Yungblud's career has a wise way of doing so. Again, he isn't without skills, but he certainly doesn't have a higher skill level than many other solo acts and bands currently working in the world of rock.

He would likely say so too. He doesn't come across as not being appreciative of those greats, like Ozzy, that he has met.

The issue is that at any point soon, Yungblud could see his career once again regress if he tries to go it alone too much. He needs a little help from his terrific friends to help him succeed. Most people do.

As far as Black Veil Brides, they have carved out their own niche in horror metal. The music they make isn't for the masses, of course. That doesn't matter. They like what they do, and so do their longtime fans. If anything, it is those like BVB who will be the saviors of rock and roll: They are willing to be brave enough to try their own thing, and if it fails, so be it.
