If there is one thing that fans of artists love, it’s reliving their music in any way they can. The 1970s saw the beginnings of concert recording begin to flourish. Then, heading into the eighties, it wasn’t rare to see a mega band release a live recording or tour documentary alongside a live album or even as a standalone feature.

So many iconic concert recordings exist now, giving fans who were there a chance to relive the magic of the show or, for those who missed out or may not even have been born, a chance to experience those magical performances.

Some of the biggest performances include: Prince's Sign o’ the Times, Queen Rock Montreal, AC/DC’s Let There Be Rock, and Bowie’s Serious Moonlight - just a handful of true music icons who turned audio to picture.

Ghost: 2 Big To Rig to hit cinemas

Many of these have been reinvented for modern audiences with DVD’s and 4k upgrades. And Swedish metal band Ghost have drawn inspiration from many of these ahead of their new and upcoming release.

Ghost is no stranger to the concert recording. In 2024, Rite Here Rite Now marked the band's first movie and recorded concert from their 2023 Kia Forum rituals in Inglewood, California.

The main difference between this and their upcoming release is that Rite Here Rite Now included clips and snippets of the band's lore. This time around, they are going for a fully eighties nostalgic trip. Here is all you need to know ahead of their August 2026 release, 2 Big To Rig.

It is a very bittersweet moment for Ghost fans as they are going to be treated to a new live recording of their favourite band, but it also marks the start of their needed hiatus.

The live recording 2 Big To Rig is a dedication to the scale of the Skeletour and how it was simply too big to transport to all the countries they initially wanted to. The Skeletour ran throughout Europe, the UK, Mexico, and the USA in 2025 and into 2026. 2 Big To Rig was recorded over two rituals in Mexico City.

What makes this a very interesting release is that it was recorded on 16mm film and will be released on August 26 to IMAX and standard screens in cinemas across the globe.

One of the official movie posters displays fans descending on the Palacio de los Deportes through the car park and even has some of them in cosplay - how accurate! Ghost also does what Ghost does best, and if you look closely, you can see a very hidden facial detail of Papa V Perpetua on the poster.

Fans can also grab some merchandise from the official Ghost store, including posters, jumpers and Ts. There could be more on the way. It is too early to know if there will be a physical media release for the recording; however, I believe it is highly likely.

The movie will be released via Trafalgar Releasing and Popecorn Cinematic Pictures and is set to unite Ghouls and Ghoulletts across the globe to invigorate us with the magic of Ghost once more, with some BTS insight into what it took to bring the show together.

Some lucky fans across five cities in Berlin, Los Angeles, Mexico City, London and Sydney have been able to grab tickets to some special early screenings taking place on August 24. Tickets for other screenings can still be bought from local movie theatres.

Another major detail fans would love to know is what the set list could look like. Here is an estimated list of songs to feature:

  1. "Peacefield"
  2. "Lachryma"
  3. "Spirit"
  4. "From the Pinnacle to the Pit"
  5. "Majesty"
  6. "The Future is a Foreign Land"
  7. "Devil Church"
  8. "Cirice"
  9. "Darkness at the Heart of My Love"
  10. "Satanized"
  11. "Satan Prayer"
  12. "Umbra"
  13. "Year Zero"
  14. "He Is"
  15. "Rats"
  16. "Kiss the Go-Goat"
  17. "Mummy Dust"
  18. "Monstrace Clock"
  19. "Mary on a Cross" (encore)
  20. "Dance Macabre" (encore)
  21. "Square Hammer" (encore)

The end of Rite Here Rite Now featured "The Future Is a Foreign Land" during the closing credits. There could be a special song added in the credits for 2 Big To Rig; however, this is not guaranteed, and we will not know until the release. But it is certain to be a very magical time for Ghost fans everywhere!
