Many reasons exist for music being the greatest art form. It can be extremely diverse sonically, and it can bring people joy and tears, even if the tears are sometimes happy ones, too. Plus, music augments any other art form, too.

When correctly added to a TV or streaming series or a film, those media are made even better. How odd would it feel if a show or movie didn't have music? Maybe the sound isn't meant to stand out, but music certainly helps set the mood for a scene.

But which pieces of music were deemed worthy of being nominated for Golden Globe awards in 2026? The foreign press announced the nominees in all categories on Monday. The music-related ones are below.

2026 Golden Globes nominees in the music categories

Best Original Song - Motion Picture

  • “Dream as One” ––Avatar: Fire and Ash; Music by: Miley Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, Simon Franglen; Lyrics by: Miley Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, Simon Franglen
  • “Golden” ––Kpop Demon Hunters; Music by: Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, Park Hong Jun; Lyrics by: Kim Eun-Jae (Ejae), Mark Sonnenblick
  • “I Lied To You” ––Sinners; Music by: Raphael Saadiq, Ludwig Göransson; Lyrics by: Raphael Saadiq, Ludwig Göransson
  • “No Place Like Home” ––Wicked: For Good; Music by: Stephen Schwartz, Lyrics by: Stephen Schwartz
  • “The Girl in the Bubble” ––Wicked: For Good; Music by: Stephen Schwartz; Lyrics by: Stephen Schwartz
  • “Train Dreams” ––Train Dreams; Music by: Nick Cave, Bryce Dessner; Lyrics by: Nick Cave

One might wonder if the two songs from Wicked: For Good will split their vote, leaving open the chance for another winner. Still, how often do you find an award category that has both Miley Cyrus and Nick Cave involved? At least the foreign press has good taste.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture

  • Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein)
  • Ludwig Göransson (Sinners)
  • Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another)
  • Kangding Ray (Sirāt)
  • Max Richter (Hamnet)
  • Hans Zimmer (F1)

Hans Zimmer has 16 total Golden Globe nominations in his career, but only three wins. The interesting part would be seeing Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood win for composing the score to the film that will likely win Best Picture at the Oscars. He would make for a worthy winner.

The 2026 Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 11, and begin at 8 pm ET. You can watch on CBS or stream on Paramount+. Comedian Nikki Glaser will host.
