British heavy metal icon Iron Maiden will be hitting the big screen later this year in a brand new documentary highlighting their illustrious 50-year career.

The untitled project from Universal Pictures Content Group will feature exclusive conversations and interviews with members of the band, never-before-seen footage, and, of course, animations of their larger-than-life mascot, Eddie.

Production of the documentary, which was directed by Malcolm Venhille and produced by Dominic Freeman, was recently completed and it is set for international release later this year. As of this time, distribution is to be determined in the United States.

Iron Maiden featured in new theatrically-released documentary

The first lineup included Steve Harris, vocalist Paul Day, guitarists Terry Rance and Dave Sullivan, and drummer Ron Matthews rounding out the fold. During the early years, the band underwent several lineup changes and, by 1980, featured Paul Di’Anno on lead vocals, Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton on guitars, Cliver Burr on drums, and Harris on bass.

By 1982, Di’Anno departed the band, and Bruce Dickinson took the reins on lead vocals. The band enjoyed major success with a string of platinum and gold albums, including The Number of the Beast, Piece of MindPowerslave, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Fast forward to 2025, and Iron Maiden has released 17 studio albums and has played to hundreds of millions of fans around the world during the course of their incredible career. Not only are they famous for their music, but they are also known for their iconic mascot, Eddie, who has appeared on all 17 album covers, as well as tour posters, stage shows, and merchandise.

Fans can expect the legendary mascot to have a focal role in the documentary, which is guaranteed to be a must-watch for Iron Maiden fans everywhere.

As of 2025, the current touring lineup includes Dickinson, Harris, Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers (guitar), and Simon Dawson (drums). Dawson is a newcomer, having replaced longtime drummer Nicko Brain, who joined the band in 1982. McBrain recently retired and will continue to represent the band in an official capacity, with the exception of live shows.

Despite being on the scene for 50 years, Maiden has shown no signs of slowing down, with a world tour in their sights in late 2025 through 2026. Titled the “Run for Your Lives Tour,” the band will be playing songs released exclusively from 1980-1990, which is arguably the group’s most popular and most successful period.

With the upcoming tour and documentary coming later this year, it is a great time to be a fan of Iron Maiden.
