The 2026 World Cup is now fully underway after Mexico opened with a win against South Africa in Mexico City. The concert before the match was epic, and will be difficult to beat, but make no mistake, Canada and the United States are going to try.
For the first match between the Canadian team in Toronto, which begins at 3 pm ET on Friday, June 12, and will be held at Toronto Stadium, where the team takes on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé will help kick off the proceedings. They will be joined by Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, William Prince, Sanjoy, Nora Fatehi, Elyanna, and Vegedream.
The music begins 90 minutes ahead of the first kick, so how do you tune in at 1:30 pm ET to watch? That, of course, depends on where you live. In Canada, you can watch on the CTV broadcast and stream on the CTV app and Crave.
How to watch and stream the music before Canada plays Bosnia and Herzegovina to help open the World Cup
If you live in the United States, it's easy and complicated at the same time. FOX will carry the match, but maybe not all of the music. You'll have to hunt for that. You can try streaming the event on YouTubeTV, Hulu + Live TV, or Sling TV. If you tune into FOX, you might see a bit of the music, but a lot of analysts discussing the match, too.
In the UK, you can watch on the BBC and ITV (check your listings), and stream on BBC iPlayer and ITVX. Again, you might have to search for Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette if that's the only part of the day you want to watch.
If you are working during the Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina match, but you still need your World Cup music fix, you can tune in at 7:30 pm ET, 90 minutes before the US team plays Paraguay, and watch Katy Perry, LISA, Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema, Anitta, and hip-hop icon Future perform before the last match of the day.
Again, that match will be broadcast on FOX, but you may need to use streaming services to catch most, if not all, of the music. And no offense to the musical artists strutting their stuff before Canada and the United States play, but the Mexican approach was massive, bombastic, and brilliant. In fact, it was far better than the match (poor South Africa had two players get red cards in the loss).
