Are you ready for re-recorded Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, but as John's Versions? John Fogerty is taking a page from Taylor Swift's playbook and creating new songs based on passed masters. The former CCR frontman is releasing an album on August 22 called Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years.
Swift, of course, has re-recorded four of the six albums she made under her old Big Machine Records contract. Taylor's Versions allow the pop queen to control her own masters. That means her music won't be sold unless she has some control over who is buying it.
That makes sense for any artist. They created the art, and they should have a say in what happens to it.
John Fogerty is doing his best version of Taylor Swift
Unlike Swift, though, Fogerty didn't re-record CCR tracks to own the masters. He already owns his. It took him years to be able to get them, however. Finally, after a decades-long battle, in 2023, Fogerty was awarded ownership of the masters.
The reason he re-recorded the music is more of a celebration of that ownership. The process was a family-related one, too. John was joined by his sons, Shane and Tyler (both of whom play the guitar), and Shane produced the album.
Joining the fathers and sons trio are Bob Malone on keyboards, Bob Glaub on bass, Matt Chamberlain on drums, and Rob Stone on saxophone.
Three songs from the soon-to-be-released album are already available for streaming. The tracks include "Up Around The Bend," "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," and "Porterville."
