John Mulaney has a weird Netflix talk show called Everybody's Live with John Mulaney. On it, he invites guests he wants instead of obvious A-listers, and has interesting musical artists. He isn't going to high-end views, maybe, but instead trying to simply be different. He succeeds.
One musical guest he got to show up this week on his first-season finale was Cleveland hip-hop artist Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Why? Who knows? Mulaney seemingly tried to get the group on earlier in 2025, but that didn't happen. Then, someone connected with the group worked it out for Bone to appear.
The situation in which they appeared was a bit odd. Of course, nearly everything about Mulaney's talk show is weird. But this situation was different.
John Mulaney wrangles Bone Thugs-N-Harmony into showing up on his talk show
For weeks, Mulaney had been building up a "fight" he was going to have with three teenage boys. The bit came to be after the social media sensation of whether 100 men could beat one gorilla. In Mulaney's case, it was whether one 42-year-old man could be three teenage boys.
Spoiler alert: He couldn't. Of course, the whole thing was likely staged as the teenagers wore headgear, and the comedian was clearly not going to do anything to intentionally injure the boys. All entered a wrestling ring, and nearly immediately, the boys rushed Mulaney, pinning him to the ground until Mulaney tapped out.
This is where Bone Thugs-N-Harmony entered. Coming in through a backdoor, they performed their 1996 hit, "Tha Crossroads." The whole scene was surreal. Surely, money changed hands because why would Bone join in with the silliness of the situation?
The group does not have a new album set to be released, so maybe it was relatively free publicity for them. People might dig into their old catalog, but while they were a success in the 1990s and 2000s, they have been invisible in a chart sense since. Their most recent album, New Waves, was released in 2017 but did not chart higher than number 181.
Rumor has it that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will release a new single in 2025, but there is no known date for that. Instead, let's hope they pick up some extra streams from their John Mulaney show stunt.
