Kate Bush reveals new album news as she releases a short film
By StevieMac
It’s been quite some time since Kate Bush had a new album released. There are signs though, from the artist herself, that the wait may be coming to an end. She is keen to get back in the studio again. There is also the opportunity to see and hear something new from her now.
It was back in 2011 when we last had a new studio album from her. 50 Words for Snow came out then as her tenth such record. It ended a gap of six years from her ninth studio album, Ariel, in 2005.
So the time is more than right in terms of filling that latest long gap. Especially as her music had a great boost with her song “Running Up That Hill” reaching the charts around the world in 2022. It was driven by being included on the TV series Stranger Things.
A short animation film from Kate Bush is out now, and hopefully an album is to follow
Listeners rushed to play more of that song and Bush’s back catalog. A whole new era and generation of fans emerged. Perhaps that could be the case and also an inspiration for something new.
Bush has been interviewed recently in the UK by Emma Barnett on BBC Radio 4’s Today program. The singer gave plenty of hope that a new record could well be in the offing. “I’m very keen to start working on a new album.” “I’ve got lots of ideas. I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space. It’s been a long time.” Bush has always been ultra creative in her work ever since she burst into the scene with her unique style and her first hit single, “Wuthering Heights,” in 1978.
Clearly there will be some time to wait before we get even close to a new album being released. Especially if she is only now talking about getting back to a studio rather than work being underway. Bush fans will remain patient I’m sure.
In the meantime, she does have something else coming out much sooner. Bush has been creating a short animation film Little Shrew to support the charity War Child. She is also behind the film music, a rework of her song “Snowflake” from that last release in 2011.
It’s for a good cause and should help satisfy her fans, for a short while anyway. The film is now available to view via Bush’s official website. Viewers can see it for free but are encouraged to support related charities.
