The Rolling Stones aren't going away, of course, and they likely won't for many years. It might have been sixty years since they started delivering great music, but they still do. The issue is that many fans still want to hear those songs live.
The legendary band, after releasing their newest record, Foreign Tongues, has no plans to tour behind it. Not that the Stones have to. After all, they have a large enough built-in audience that they could continue to make albums and never tour and still have those records sell well. But they made their bones with live shows, and are still fantastic in concert.
The good news is that guitarist Keith Richards recently told the Associated Press that while no plans exist in 2026 to do a run of shows, 2027 might be different. He definitely implied that the Stones' days of touring aren't done, and will be back on the road sooner rather than later.
Keith Richards implies the Rolling Stones could be touring in 2027
Richards said, "We can talk next year. At the moment, we’re just sort of saying, we’ve finished the record...(and we are) considering what to do after. Pretty soon, but not this year."
The "pretty soon" part is the most enticing. All fans know for sure is that tour dates won't happen this year, but a new album will be forthcoming. Those same fans can likely assume that in 2027, some shows will happen, and one can assume on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Rolling Stones last performed in the UK in 2022, but only did a handful of shows. In 2024, the band toured the United States in support of their previous album, Hackney Diamonds.
As far as what is known about Foreign Tongues, the band has released two singles, one under the false name of the Cockroaches. That was "Rough and Twisted," a track about something your parents didn't discuss with you.
The next single was "In the Stars," a fine tune, though far from the band's best. The track did suggest a rawness to the new album, one that was recorded and mixed in less than a month. Andrew Watt is the producer, which implies a great quality to the sound.
The album, which also features a cover of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good," will be released on July 10. Some of the guests helping out the Rolling Stones include the Cure's Robert Smith, Paul McCartney, and Chrissie Hynde.
