If you are a fan of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (and let's be real: why wouldn't you be?), then you will know the Australian rockers don't like to be pigeonholed. They might produce an album of sludge metal, and then the next release might be something fans of Phish might love. The trick is that all of the work is brilliant.
And there is a lot of it, too. The band formed in 2010 in Melbourne, and in the 15 years since, the band has released 27 studio albums and 63 live albums. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard simply don't subscribe to the theory that there could be an oversaturation of their music.
Partly it is because they keep fans on their feet. One can never say, "Oh, that sounds like King Gizzard..." because the band could sound like anything great about rock.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard announce a few 2026 tour dates in the United States
The group's most recent album, Phantom Island, was released in June 2025. Expect another one soon, as per the band's usual way of doing business. Instead of heavy metal noise, Phantom Island has more orchestral flourishes. Again, it works extremely well.
The hard-working Aussies also put on majestic live shows. The good news is that if you live in Australia, the band is on tour for the next couple of weeks. In 2026, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard travel to the United States for a handful of shows. Most of those will take place in New York City, so book your flights now.
