Oasis is obviously a legendary band, and one that will be remembered for as long as people are listening to rock music. Fontaines D.C. are an excellent new band, but still trying to carve out their niche for decades to come. Don't expect the two bands to be touring together any time soon, though.
The reason is that Oasis vocalist Liam Gallagher, never one to hold his tongue, isn't a fan of Fontaines. When asked by a fan on social media if Fontaines might support Gallagher's band on the 2027 tour, Gallagher responded, "There (sic) not good enough they don’t have any tunes."
The rebuff of the Irish band might stem from a couple of members of Fontaines saying in 2024 that they thought Fontaines was outdated. Guitarist Carlos O'Connell said he "couldn't really give a (expletive)" about Oasis's most recent tour, for instance.
Oasis's Liam Gallagher pushes back on touring with Fontaines D.C.
Fontman Grian Chatten disagreed and said he was a fan of the Gallagher brothers' band, but by that time the damage, at least publicly, was likely done between the groups. What makes the situation a bit more strange is that the Gallaghers have Irish parents and consider themselves Irish, even though they grew up in Manchester, and one would assume they might support the Irish-born Fontaines.
Maybe this is simply a small feud between two bands trying to cover the same rock ground. Most likely, many bands overlap before the two, though that doesn't mean a war of words between Oasis and Fontaines D.C. does anyone any good. It might come across as shallow, especially from what Liam Gallagher said.
Just imagine how epic a tour would be that features Oasis as the headliner, with Fontaines D.C. as the most important supporting act. Fans would flock to see either, but seeing both together would be a concert to remember forever.
Will that ever happen? Will the two sides, and mostly Gallagher, put differences and needless hurt feelings aside and do gigs? Probably not. Oasis probably won't tour forever, and Fontaines are trending toward being the headliner of their own tours for the foreseeable future.
Both are set up for success in the near future. Fontaines D.C. recently released the extremely well-received album Dopamine Chamber. Oasis will be making a lot of money on their tour next year. The world of rock is in a good place, even if a couple of the more important bands are having a tiff.
