When you are one of the most influential music stars and are certified the best-selling female music artist in history, you might start working on a feature biopic and a limited bio TV series simultaneously.

Of course, the artist in question is Madonna, and it has just been announced that she will team up with in-vogue producer/director Shawn Levy, who directed Stranger ThingsDeadpool, and Wolverine, among others.

According to initial reports, the limited bio TV series is in its early stages, and while Madonna’s involvement is still not defined (or disclosed), Levy will be the executive producer, and Madonna and Levy have been discussing this project for a while now. The series will be worked on from scratch, and the general idea seems to cover some period of her life and music.

Madonna is teaming up with Shawn Levy and Netflix for bio-series

Madonna’s story started from her early beginnings when she landed in New York from her native Michigan with just $35 to pursue her music and dance career. To this day, some parts of it are yet to be disclosed.

Madonna’s rise and her current status in the music world always begged a film feature or a TV series (or both) with over 400 million records sold all over the world and her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2008), as well as an immense influence on so many other pop artists speaking for itself.

So, what would be the fate of the previously announced full-feature Madonna biopic that was announced in 2020 and is still formally in the works for Universal Studios? The film was to star in-vogue actress Julia Garner (Ozark series), and Madonna was to co-write and direct the project. No announcement has been made at this time.

Still, the movie project might be up in the air. It was first scrapped in 2023 and then put back online in 2025. Madonna aired her grievances about the project late last year when she revealed that producers were looking for her to “downsize” the film into a series. So, this might be that downsizing, but done elsewhere, or with Levy and Netflix, to be precise.

What just might remain the same with both projects is Julia Garner. Although no confirmation has been made, it is mostly expected that she would play Madonna in this new TV series.

At the same time, Levy, who has worked on Stranger Things and Deadpool projects and series like The Perfect Couple and All the Light We Cannot See, seems to be an excellent fit to direct this new project.
