Mastodon just released a new single that carries extra weight

Worth the listen.

Five months after leaving Mastodon last year, frontman Brent Hinds died in a motorcycle accident. To honor the singer and his death, the band produced their new single, "Your Ghost Again." The vocals are handled by drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders.

The song is also a reflection of Dailor's mother, who also recently died. In other words, while the song is a great listen, as almost everything Mastodon does is, the bittersweet drips through and provides additional emotional weight.

The band is also prepping a follow-up album to 2021's Hushed and Grim. Based on "Your Ghost Again," the record could be Mastodon's most personal. Does this mean a different sound? Maybe, but the group has often played with different subgenres of metal, so a new direction might simply be from the natural evolution of the group.

Mastodon drop bittersweet song and announce a slew of fall North American tour dates

The band has also scheduled North American tour dates following a stint in Europe earlier in the late spring and summer. The shows begin in Orlando, Florida, on September 16. Tickets for the Poisonous Weapons Tour will be made available on Friday, June 5, at 10 am local time. One can find more information on Mastodon's official website.

As any longtime fan of the band knows, their live shows should not be missed. They deliver a level of creativity and entertainment that few other groups can.
