Morgan Wallen unsurprisingly makes classless move on Saturday Night Live

Last time on SNL?

Country star Morgan Wallen was brought on Saturday Night Live because he is popular. That makes sense. His appearances help bring eyes to the show and potential new listeners to Wallen. However, some of the best performances ever on SNL are those from musical artists who are not household names.

Perhaps the next time the iconic series thinks of having Wallen on, they should instead invite someone most people have never heard of to play. The unknown performers would almost certainly have a better appreciation for being seen by millions who are just a click away from buying their albums. Wallen does not have that level of respect.

Wallen was the musical guest on an episode hosted by Arona star Mikey Madison. He played his two numbers, and the audience's response was mixed. Not that his songs were genuinely bad. If you like his music, you probably like what he sang. However, New York City is not Wallen's ideal audience. Don't take my word for it; take his.

Morgan Wallen brings a lack of class to Saturday Night Live

The issue was that in the closing credits of the show, the host gives thanks to the cast and the special musical guest. Almost always, everyone stays on stage and greets everyone else from that week's show and says their goodbyes—not Wallen. After Madison said her thanks, Wallen said something to her, and then he walked directly off-stage in front of the camera.

The assumption was that he did not like the cast. The truth is, he should never be invited back. His previous appearance on SNL was canceled in October 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the country star was seen on social media going to parties unmasked. He did play in December 2020.

After walking off the stage, Wallen posted on Instagram a photo of a plane with the caption, "Get me to God's country." One might interpret this as Wallen doesn't think NYC is "God's country."

Of course, this is the same human being who had so little reverence for others' lives that he threw a chair off a six-story bar in 2024. The chair could have easily landed on someone and caused significant harm. Wallen later took ownership of what he did and was sentenced to DUI classes and a two-year probation. His ability to think about anything but himself, though, was on clear display on Saturday Night Live.
