May is closing out with a proverbial bang. Instead of the month being front-loaded with a lot of album releases, the final Friday is giving us more than 20 new arrivals. You want pop? You got it. If you want to simply listen to something loud? There is that, too.
Beyond the three releases we have listed below, you might want to check out the new Foxwarren release. Their 2020 self-titled record was excellent. Why should their second one not be?
But many of the artists with new albums this Friday are ones you know well. Instead of working the same soil, they bring fresh releases. The three here are not to be missed.
3 albums that you shouldn't miss being dropped on May 30
Garbage - Let All That We Imagine Be the Light
Shirley Manson and her band might always be remembered as a glorious 1990s band, but they have never truly gone away. More importantly, they have never stopped making great music. It isn't pop enough to sell millions of albums, but that's not the point. Garbage knows its audiences and understands fans will appreciate what they do.
The latest album might be their best in two decades, though. There is no mellowing with age here, but a coupling of themes, such as love, with how dark the world can be. If you want to rock out to something with a bunch of melody, this is the record for you.
Matt Berninger - Get Sunk
If you love The National (and you should, because why wouldn't you?), then you probably will like this record, too. You also already know that Berninger is the vocalist for one of your favorite bands and writes much of the lyrics. That should translate well to his latest solo project.
The singer's words are very often opaque internal gems, but this album might be a bit more open. The songs are mostly about childhood and what forms a person. Plus, "Times of Difficulty" will remind many of The National's "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks," so you know what to look forward to.
Miley Cyrus - Something Beautiful
This one is promised to have a psychedelic feel, but we might be safe to assume that it's going to feel like a late 1960s work. Cyrus is a smart musical artist, and one who grew up in the business, so she knows that there is a limit to how far a fan base is willing to go. In other words, expect some psychedelia, but a lot of pop.
It might be difficult for Cyrus to beat her last album's sales, especially as that record was home to the massive-selling single, "Flowers." But the pop diva has released "End of the World" from Something Beautiful, and it's pretty darned good.
