The Sex Pistols will seemingly never be done. Based on which band member you speak with, the punk giants were supposed to either be a one-album band, or there was never meant to be an expiration date to the music they would make. The band produced only one studio album and is unlikely to ever make another. Still, their live shows continue.
Three original members of the band (Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock) got back together again last year, and Frank Carter joined them as vocalist. John Lydon (formerly known as Johnny Rotten) was not happy about the reunion, but he has long eschewed having to do anything with the group. He would rather be beligerent than helpful.
It's not that the iconic group easily replaces Lydon. Most fans will always want to remember the 1977 version of the Sex Pistols with Rotten spewing his words while the band follows with aggressive and confrontational music. That was what punk was supposed to be.
Sex Pistols announce run of North American shows starting in late summer
Carter is no slouch, though. He did great work with Gallows in the early years of the band, and he and the Rattlesnakes put on some great shows. If you are going to watch the Sex Pistols live, and you should, then if Lydon chooses not to be a part, at least Carter is a worthy fill-in.
The good news is that you might get to see the band play, and this includes them playing Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols in its entirety. This summer, they will have some European dates, and initially, there was no mention of potential North American dates. That has changed.
