Super Bowl halftime shows can be terrific, of course. Who can ever forget the performance Prince put on in the middle of a thunderstorm? It was almost too perfect.
In years past, the NFL has decided to go fairly hip-hop and R&B heavy. While some very good artists were involved, the league appears to be stuck in a rut, musically speaking. Maybe adding someone like Sleep Token would be a different way to go, but we know that's not going to happen.
Many might hope that Taylor Swift will play the 2026 Super Bowl, and there is logic to that. The pop queen will have a recently released album by the time the Super Bowl is held. The issue is that the record will then be three months old, and Swift doesn't really need the publicity; everything she does gets noticed.
Adele reportedly in talks to play the Super Bowl LX halftime show
According to Page Six, Adele has been in talks about booking the Super Bowl LX halftime show. To be clear, the NFL and Adele, along with Apple Music, which puts on the halftime show, have not finalized the pop star's appearance, but that rumor makes sense as well.
The issue is that, as of right now, there is no rumored Adele album on the way. Her last was in 2021, but she hasn't stopped performing. Her recent Las Vegas residency was legendary, for instance. She has the skill to pull off a huge show, too, but it would help if she had a new record coming out.
Adele would be the Super Bowl halftime show's first pure pop performer since The Weeknd in 2021, so if rumors are correct about the British singer doing the show, it could mark a turn away from hip-hop acts. Or maybe this is just a one-off, and 2027 will give us an artist like Clipse.
One thing appears certain, however. Rock is out. The last pure rock act was the Who, and that was in 2010, and it didn't go very well. Prior to that, there were several, so maybe when the people in Sleep Token turn 65 years old, there will be hope that they will finally have a chance at playing the Super Bowl.
