Ozzy Osbourne biopic has more questions than answers for fans after six years

Will it ever happen?

As harsh as it sounds, the reality is that an Ozzy Osbourne biopic might do no better commercially than if it were released soon. The legend's death in 2025 means fans and music lovers want even more of him before too much time goes by. And he deserves that. He's an icon.

A biopic of the Prince of Darkness has been in the works at Sony for six years now, which is usually around the time a project is sold to another distributor or dropped altogether. Of course, most studios might want a chance to make a family-backed Osbourne pic, but that cannot happen unless the rights change.

On a recent episode of Billy Morrison’s SiriusXM show, Ozzy's son, Jack, gave somewhat of an update on the film, but with no real answers. He sounded like someone who wanted to sell the film, but without having any real information. In other words, no firm timeline exists for the untitled movie to be produced and released.

Ozzy Osbourne biopic still seems to be a ways off

Jack did tease that an actor has been attached to play Ozzy, and that the actor is a "phenomenal, phenomenal" one. Are they? Maybe all the contract details have not been worked out, or Sony isn't ready to allow the information to be released, but actors get attached to projects all the time, and things fall through.

Some have rumored that Yungblud might play the part of Ozzy Osbourne, as Yungblud popped up with all things Ozzy in 2025. He performed at the Ozzy and Black Sabbath Back to the Beginning farewell show, and he was at the legend's funeral, too.

But let's be honest, while Yungblud is not without talent, if he is indeed the person who will play Ozzy, calling Yungblud a "phenomenal" actor is a stretch.

Jack Osbourne also mentioned that the project is on to the next phase, that a director is attached (again, no name was given), and that the film is currently being re-written. Films do go through several rewrites, of course, so that is nothing new.

Still, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath fans probably would be happy to learn exactly who is playing the icon and who is going to be at the helm of making the film. Those are the most important pieces. Until those roles are announced, the film doesn't feel as if it will ever be made.
