Ozzfest is back in 2027, and the metal world can rejoice. The last time the festival was held was in 2018, and even after the death of Ozzy Osbourne in 2025, Sharon Osbourne says the show must go on.

The new iteration of the festival will take place at the same location where Ozzy's final show took place. Back to the Beginning, the final gig for both Ozzy and Black Sabbath, was held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5. The date for the new festival hasn't been announced, but it will be held next summer.

According to what Sharon Osbourne told Metal Hammer, Ozzfest 2027 could take place over two days, though the lineup was still in question. The positive part is that nearly a year exists between now and the festival date, so there is plenty of time to ask some legendary performers to turn up.

New iteration of Ozzfest has been announced

The original festival began in 1996 after Ozzy wasn't invited to travel along with Lollapalooza. That turned out to be an accidental big win for metal fans, as Ozzfest became a home for some up-and-coming bands who helped change the genre.

Some of those artists included Slipknot, System of a Down, and Limp Bizkit. Had Ozzfest not existed, those excellent groups might have still found their niche, but their path to being heard would have been far more difficult.

This is why the 2027 edition will hopefully include a lot of the same elements. Ozzy and Black Sabbath won't perform, of course, but likely some titans of metal will headline. Maybe they will be joined by lesser-known groups who will turn into giants on their own.

As Sharon Osbourne or the other decision-makers for Ozzfest haven't announced who will perform, fans can have fun speculating who they might love to see.

Judas Priest would make sense, of course. They are also metal gods from Birmingham, though they were not involved with Back to the Beginning because of a prior commitment to playing a show with the Scorpions in Germany.

Slipknot could appear in honor of Ozzy helping build their career. Maybe by that point, the band from Iowa will have a new album ready for release. They have reportedly been in the studio trying to trim as many as 50 songs down to something that would be a normal amount for an album.

Ideally, one of the more talked-about rock bands of 2026, Angine de Poitrine, will perform. They might not be Sabbath, but they are a rising group, perfect for the new iteration of Ozzfest.
