Patrick Mahomes is taking it cool currently. Sure, he has a football season upcoming, but this is still the preseason. He wasn't going to play in preseason Week 2 versus the Seattle Seahawks (no need to risk him to injury, after all), so he had time to listen and/or watch Taylor Swift do a podcast with his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Travis Kelce.
But did Mahomes know what was going to be said on the New Heights podcast? Who knows, but likely. The truth is (and this is no secret), the podcast was pre-taped. Most are. A live podcast nowadays is rare, and many times it goes off the rails. The Kelce brothers were almost certainly not going to let that happen with the most famous person on Earth as a guest.
So, maybe Patrick Mahomes understood that when the podcast reached the masses, he already knew that Swift was going to drop the news that she would be releasing a new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3. He didn't seemingly know that before the podcast was taped.
Patrick Mahomes knew more than he said about Taylor Swift
In a post-practice interview this week, Mahomes said, "No, it surprised me too. I mean, I knew before y’all did just because … they called me after the podcast was done. They didn’t call me, they called Brittany (Mahomes), and I was in the back of the FaceTime."
Swift and Brttany Mahomes have been friends since the pop queen began dating Travis Kelce. The two fast friends are often seen in a player's box watching games from wherever the Chiefs are playing. That Swift would call Brittany and give her and Patrick a heads-up on what was going to happen on the podcast is no surprise.
But Patrick Mahomes might have shown once again how calm he is under pressure. He has won multiple Super Bowls partly for that reason, but keeping the secrets safe of the most popular entertainer on Earth is something else. Unsurprisingly, Mahomes succeeded.
Not only did Taylor Swift give the release date for The Life of a Showgirl on the podcast, but she openly admitted to not knowing much about the Kansas City Chiefs and football before dating Travis Kelce. Now, she is a big fan. Just as we all are (of Taylor Swift).
