Could it be?

The Who haven't completely ever gone away, of course. The band broke up a long time ago, but Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey found their way back together as they always seem to do. The band has toured, made albums, and even played the Super Bowl halftime show since that initial "breakup."

The group's most recent album went a bit under the radar for such a legendary band. 2019's Who was the group's first since 2006, and was surprisingly very good. No iconic tunes were added to the Who's catalog, but that may be impossible due to the past masters always holding sway in fans' hearts.

What Townshend and Daltrey proved, though, was that the vocalist could still croon a tune in the best way, and the guitarist was still at the top of his immense game and could pen excellent melodies. But the 2019 record might not be the band's last. Townshend recently hinted on Instagram that Daltrey might be pushing to make another.

Pete Townshend implies the Who could make another album

Townshend was posting on IG about buying a writing studio from none other than pop star Rick Astley when one fan randomly commented, "There’s no way you’re gonna do another Who album."

The guitarist answered, surprisingly, "You might be wrong. Roger (Daltrey) wants to give it a try."

Of course, none of what Townshend wrote means the Who is definitely making a new album. The guitarist has long done other musical things than make music with one band. He has worked on Broadway and made tons of solo records. Nearly everything he has done has been high-quality.

His buying a writing studio could mean anything literally, so the fan stating somewhat derisively that Townshend's band wouldn't be making a new album is foolish and ignorant. (That is, unless the "fan" is actually Daltrey himself, obviously, and that clearly isn't the case.)

2026 would seem to be the perfect time for the Who to make a new record. The band has done quite a bit of touring recently, and wouldn't need to shake off any rust with working together when they entered the studio. That last part might include Pete Townshend's new writing studio, so the legend's new work might accidentally have a little help from Rick Astley.
