Billie Joe Armstrong likes to make music. The vocalist and guitarist for the iconic Green Day doesn't just limit himself to one group. He makes a bit of noise from time to time with a side project called Pinhead Gunpowder.
The band released an album in 2024 called Unt, and will be touring in 2026. The dates for the shows run from early October through mid-November, mostly in California and across the northern United States (with one show in Canada).

The good part is that this side project of Armstrong's, as well as longtime Green Day touring guitarist Jason White, isn't a completely different direction than what Armstrong's main band does. It's pop-punky stuff, and really well made.
The group also includes drummer Aaron Cometbus (as good a name as has ever been created) and bassist Bill Schneider, and began writing songs in the early 1990s. In other words, this is not a sudden pop-up side band. They've been playing together for quite some time, and it shows.
Unt received favorable reviews upon its release, but that wasn't the band's first record, either. The group released their full LP in 1997 (Goodbye Ellston Avenue), and have also dropped nine EPs. While none have charted, that's not the point. Pinhead Gunpowder is together to make music for each other and have some punk fun. Mission accomplished.
