Eminem announces next trick with a little help from a friend

Eminem took to social media to make a major announcement but not without the help of a friend.

Eminem has managed to stay relevant for decades now, and that is a bit of a trick. While he has reached the pinnacle of musical success with chart-topping albums and singles, he has never fallen too far out of favor. The cool kids never dismissed him completely, and he has never done anything to fragment his loyal fan base, either.

His fans also knew that he was going to release an album sometime in 2024. There is no firm release date, but the record will be called The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). A teaser posted on social media previously said the album was coming "summer 2020," so one can assume that at some point this summer, Eminem will release a new album (the "2020" part obviously being a joke).

Good news, though, for all who adore Mr. Mathers. He is apparently dropping a new single called "Houdini" on Friday. That is if the tea leaves he dropped on Instagram this week are ready correctly. But the post was not your boring, run-of-the-mill teaser where the artist says, "Hey! Look at me! Here is some news!" Eminem would likely never be that boring.

Eminem set to drop new song on Friday

Instead, he enlists the talents of his pal, magician David Blaine. But there is a larger game afoot. In the post, Eminem calls Blaine via FaceTime, and the rapper asks Blaine to do him a favor. Blaine says he would help in any way, of course. At that point, Eminem gives Blaine the news, and Blaine becomes confused. The conversation goes thusly:

Eminem: "Yo, listen, I need your help with something."
Blaine: "Yeah, whatever you need."
Eminem: "Well first of all, I just want you to know you’re the greatest to ever do it."
Blaine: "We should do something together one time." (To be fair, that line seems like an odd response.)
Eminem: "What I was wondering is, how far can we go with this magic? Can we do a stunt or something?...Well, for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear."
Blaine: "Wait, what?"

Four overrated bands currently on tour. Four overrated bands currently on tour. dark. Next

Your screen will then go black except for a message that reads, "'Houdini' 5.31.24" which clearly means Eminem's new track will come out on Friday. At least we know it's not going to be another silly diss track about Kendrick Lamar or Drake. In fact, the new song will probably be brilliant, like almost everything Eminem does.
