Selena Gomez shuts down talk 'Single Soon' is about The Weeknd

Selena Gomez seems nice enough. She's funny, talented, and knows how to make a song or 20. But if her new song, "Single Soon" is about who some have rumored it to be about, she would really hold some kind of grudge as well.
So maybe when people bandy about what a song is about they might ask themselves logically, "Would a person who produces records regularly really wait six years to put out a new song about someone she used to date?" That seems unlikely, right?
Unfortunately for Selena Gomez, she had to go on social media to state that, in fact, her song "Single Soon" is not about Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd. The two reportedly dated through the middle of 2017 before ending things amicably. Seems quite silly to think Gomez would still be so affected by a breakup that reportedly ended well that she would still need to create a track about it.
Selena Gomez says her new track, "Single Soon," is not about The Weeknd
The song is about how to break up with someone, however, and the different ways of possibly going about it. Then Gomez sings of all that things she can get to do once she is single again. But there is no drama to the track; It's pure fun as intended.
On Instagram, Gomez wrote that the track is a "playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin...also really fun to dance to." But if you read the reactions to the post you can see "fans" repond quite negatively. Basically, the responses are just the insta-hate on Instagram that people are sadly subjected to.
And no, maybe the song isn't a Nick Cave-type of work of art, but then that isn't the point. Heck, one of Selena Gomez's best friends - a little-known artist named Taylor Swift - seems to love the song and said she will be dancing to the song forever. Many people might be, but they, like Gomez, probably won't be thinking of The Weeknd when they do.
