If you like strong women who make awesome music and amazing recording artists, and you should, then the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are going to make you quite happy. The nominees were announced on Tuesday and the awards show will air on MTV (of course!) on September 12th and will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey at 8 pm ET. Plus, if you are a Swiftie, you will be extra happy as Taylor Swift has a chance to break some records.

Female artists dominate the nominees for this year's event. All the artists nominated for Artist of the Year are female. And all of the artists, except one, for Video of the Year are female. In other words, good for MTV for giving props to female artists that sometimes get overlooked.

As far as Taylor Swift is concerned, she has a chance at eight awards. Beyoncé holds the all-time winners list with 26 solo wins at the MTV Video Music Awards, but if Swift can sweep her categories, she would move into second all-time. The way Taylor Swift is going, she will be the all-time leader as soon as next year. Swift has won 14 MTV awards.

MTV Video Music Awards announced and there's a lot of Taylor Swift

Swift is nominated for Video of the Year for "Anti-Hero" as well as Song of the Year, Best Pop song, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction for the same song. Swift is also nominated for Artist of the Year. To keep trying to catch up to Beyoncé, Swift will have to beat her in the Artist of the Year category.

Other music news and analysis

Other performers in the Artist of the Year category besides Swift and Beyonce include Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, KAROL G, and Shakira. SZA is second behind Swift with six total nominations.

You can actually vote for the nominees on the MTV website. So, basically, if you are upset about who wins, you should only be so if you voted. It's kind of like the Presidential election, only the MTV Awards probably have a lot more positivity.
