Project Hail Mary likely takes a star like Ryan Gosling to pull off the story. The narrative is a unique and odd one, but the soundtrack is anything but. Fans might want to flock to theaters for the songs involved alone.
Like any film or series project, the music and sound can make up for a lot of sins. Success is often based on how good everything works sonically. Additionally, no matter how pristine a movie looks, if the sound is off, everything else will be, too.
No worries with that with Project Hail Mary, a film about a microorganism that somehow can eat the sun, therefore destroying the light that gets to Earth (and everyone on it), while Gosling is the only person who can stop the event from unfolding.
Project Hail Mary is likely to deliver one of your favorite soundtracks ever
Along the way, he befriends an alien. The story sounds like a farce, but that is part of the fun, and so is the soundtrack.
The tracklist features potentially Harry Styles' best song, "Sign of the Times," which fits the movie perfectly. Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" does as well. Those songs coupled together are why the soundtrack works even better. The individual songs are great, but the flow from one track to the next heightens all involved.
The trick is that the songs for the song never go into an oddness that people refuse to follow or get too depressing. An Ella Fitzgerald classic keeps everything light, as does one from Ike and Tina Turner. Money was spent to get these songs in one collection, but it was definitely money well spent.
