Pulp fans should be preparing for the band's Stop Making Sense moment. That Talking Heads concert film is one of the most brilliantly captured moments in rock film, and the Jarvis Cocker-led band from Sheffield will be trying to replicate that in the autumn.
That is the expected release time for What Do You Do for an Encore?, a film that will capture the band in concert and feature archival footage from the group's four decades of making music. The film will be directed by Garth Jennings, who is extremely familiar with Pulp.
Jennings has mastered the art of directing music videos, including the band's "Help the Aged" and "A Little Soul," as well as working with groups such as R.E.M., Radiohead, and Blur, among others. He's also directed feature films, like 2005's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which starred Martin Freeman and Mos Def.
Pulp deliver two bits of great news for fans
The project was filmed, according to NME, during Pulp's 2025 tour supporting the band's most recent album, More. The stage setup should make for an excellent opportunity for Jennings to get close to the band, giving fans a more intimate feel, just as Stop Making Sense was for Talking Heads fans.
The film will feature 20 songs, both hits and deep tracks. Ones that longtime fans know well and love as much as those heard on the radio. Jarvis Cocker will handle the narration for the project.
No firm release date exists for What Do You Do for an Encore? yet, but a fall date is expected. Distribution will be handled by MUBI and its streaming platform. This should mean that no matter where a fan lives, they should be able to see the film.
The film isn't the only good news Pulp delivered. An LP titled Live! will be coming, too. The album was recorded in June 2025 during the band's two-show run at the O2 in London.
Unlike the film, the record does have a release date. That means on August 28, you can go purchase the album and give it as a gift to your friend who loves Pulp the most. Or maybe just invite people over for a listening party.
