Roger Waters slams Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath in brutal rant

Why even say it?

Many people don't care for Roger Waters, and that includes many Pink Floyd fans. He might represent the best era in the band's history, or his leaving might have opened the group up to far more consistent. Still, many people see Waters as a kind of arrogant and outspoken jerk.

That might only be compounded by his recent words about the recently departed Ozzy Osbourne and Ozzy's former band, Black Sabbath. While Pink Floyd and Sabbath both started in the late 1960s, and both played rock, their approaches and sounds were quite different.

Waters was obviously not a fan, either of Sabbath's music or Ozzy as a Person. Maybe Waters is slightly jealous of the flowers Ozzy often received while Waters has a less-loving following. We appreciate the former Pink Floyd's songwriting, but he often overdid his themes.

Roger Waters says some mean stuff about Ozzy Osbourne

In an interview with The Independent Ink podcast, Waters said, "Ozzy Osbourne, who just died, bless him. In whatever state he was in his whole life. We'll never know, although he was all over the TV for hundreds of years with his idiocy and nonsense. The music, I have no idea. I couldn't give a (expletive). I don't care about Black Sabbath. I never did. I have no interest in biting the heads of chickens or whatever they do. I couldn't care less, you know."

Ironically, many people might say the same about Roger Waters at the end of his days. Of course, we here at AudioPhix want nothing bad to happen to anyone, but Waters should have a bit more respect for others, too. Or maybe Waters knows he will get noticed if he says some harsh words about an icon.

Oddly, for Waters to say he doesn't care much about Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath's music, he sure does seem to know a bit about them. Otherwise, what "idiocy" and "nonsense" would Waters be speaking of? Plus, the Ozzy Osbourne bat moment is something everyone knows about, whether they want to or not.

More likely, when Waters reaches an age where no one wants him to comment on things anymore, then, unlike Ozzy Osbourne, most likely Waters will be more of a nearly forgotten memory when one music lover turns to another and asks, "Wasn't Roger Waters that guy in Pink Floyd before they kicked him out?"
