The NHL is certainly attempting different approaches with its Winter Classic. The event starts as a bit of a gimmick but a truly fun one. The game counts and features two teams playing outside on a rink just as if the game were played on a pond. It makes for an electric performance.

But more recently, the NHL has asked musical acts to be a part as well. Last year in Seattle, Heart, and Sir Mix-A-Lot performed at the event. This year the game will be held at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago. As in previous editions of the game, the NFL tries to find a band from the city where the game is held. 2024 will be no different.

The Smashing Pumpkins will put on a short show before the game which features the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. Chicago has been home to the event before and is a great place to watch the game. But if you are a Smashing Pumpkins fan, things might be even better.

Smashing Pumpkins set to play at the NHL's Winter Classic

That is because OS LA Productions is offering you money to show up at the pre-game show. That would be $100 cold cash in your pocket, plus being right in front of the stage. Sure, Billy Corgan and friends are not going to play a complete set of music, but what you get will be some of their best songs. And you might even appear on the broadcast of the Pumpkins bit.

What you don't get is a ticket to the game, but maybe you do not care about that. In fact, OS LA Productions is also going to cover transportation to and from Wrigley Field while you enjoy the Pumpkins. You will get kicked out before the game unless you have a ticket, but who cares? You can go home and watch the Blackhawks versus the Blues.

Call time for the Pumpkins set is 3 pm CT, and the "concert" will last until about 5 pm. You also have to be 18 years old or older to get in. Also, Chance the Rapper will be part of the Winter Classic performance so if you are a fan of his, you might be a winner as well.
