Arriving soon.

There is going to be something a tad sad about Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. Besides the fact that there is unlikely to be a Spinal Tap III, especially as the sequel to the iconic original took 41 years to release. But part of the movie's plot might remind some of a recent event, too.

The band has to get back together to play one final farewell show. One of the members does not appear to be ill, but the group's manager has passed away and in his will he has stated the band needs to do one more show.

This part of the film might be too soon for some, as Ozzy Osbourne recently died just a couple of weeks after performing in a massive Ozzy and Black Sabbath farewell show. If the original ending of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues included a band member's death, it might need to be changed.

First-look photos for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues are first-look fun

What we do know about the film is that Rob Reiner is back to direct and play documentarian Marty DiBergi as he films the events of Spinal Tap coming together for the final gig. Bassist Derek Smalls, played by Harry Shearer, has been working as a curator at the New Museum of Glue. He's also written a symphony about the devil who wears a bad hairpiece.

Guitarist Nigel Tufnel, played by Christopher Guest, has been in charge of a guitar shop, one that also sells cheese. He has also been playing in a local folk band.

Singer David St. Hubbins, played by Michael McKean, has been making podcast music and hold music for phones.

This all implies the band will be a complete mess whenever they do come together and play, and that is exactly what fans likely want. We can also assume the concert will be excellent even after all the chaos.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will drop in theaters on September 12, but teaser photos of the film have been released by Bleecker Street Studios. They show the band back in full metal garb, and very out of touch. Perfect.

Paul McCartney and Elton John will appear, among the many cameos that are expected. The film should be fluffy fun, and full of in-jokes. In other words, exactly what we need at the end of summer.
