Taylor Swift cannot help but drop musical magic. She goes into the studio, mixes up a batch of greatness, and gives that gift to the rest of the world.
Her latest releases are related to Friday's drop of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an album originally released last October. The deluxe version has four extra tunes.
To be sure, they are all high quality because this is Taylor Swift, of course. But while all the new tracks are excellent, the final one stands out the most.

"Patient Zero"
The smooth jam with, of course, exquisite production. Swift's vocals are as they always are: Clean, strong, and confident. The lyrics speak about a friend, possibly, involved with a former romantic partner of the narrator's, but the new relationship is expectedly not going well. The narrator would offer advice to the new partner, but with more than a tinge of sadness.
The song doesn't quite hit home, though. It is lovely and sounds great, but doesn't really go anywhere sonically. For sure, the track isn't bad (can Taylor Swift even make those?), but it isn't her best, and it isn't even the best among the four new songs on the deluxe record.
"Cleveland!"
This tune is as expected: An homeage about love, especially Swift's adoration of her husband, Travis Kelce. Kelce's family is from just outside Cleveland, Ohio. Anything but an upbeat and fun track would have missed the point the lyrics make.
At first, Swift speaks-sings as a build-up to a chorus that is so joyous it could be a cousin to the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme. The beat could have one wanting to get out of the chair and do some jogging. You will want to move and shake your booty, and do so quite happily.
"Pink Clouding"
This isn't a paean to Kelce, but quite the opposite. The tune is also upbeat, but the lyrics are a regretful reflection on a relationship that ended too soon. Unless Swift is trying to tell us something tragic about her current relationship, one can listen to the track knowing that in the end, everything worked out for a Swifty's favorite artist.
The last quarter of the song bounces back from a slight breakdown with aplomb. While the subject isn't overly happy, the music that accompanies it is. The song finishes strong and is worthy of multiple repeat listens.
"Babylon"
Another song about regret over love's past, but arguably the best track among the four new ones on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. The chorus leaks midtempo beauty, and the whole song feels like an early-autumn tune, which is basically what it has become.
The melancholy is real, but so his the gorgeous production. One shouldn't listen to the song immediately following a breakup, though. In six months' time, it will be a good song to look back on, but certainly not initially.
