Taylor Swift might have had a chance, but only in theory, of being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2026. The three-member class was announced on Friday, and the group was impressive, even without Swift.

Had Swift been inducted, she would have been by far the youngest to ever be so. She is 36 years old, and 2026 was the first year she could have been inducted. An artist must have 20 years pass since first reaching "national prominence," and the icon's first record came out in 2006, featuring the single "Tim McGraw."

Swift still has a chance to be the youngest inductee. The record for that is 48 years old, which is how old Johnny Cash and Eddy Arnold were in their years of becoming members of the hall. That means Swift has until 2037 to break the record.

Coincidentally, McGraw was among the three inductees. The others were Paul Overstreet and the Stanley Brothers.

Overstreet was inducted as part of the Non-Performer and Record and/or Touring Musician category. He was the songwriter of such hits as "Diggin' Up Bones" and "Forever and Ever, Amen," both performed by Randy Travis, and "When You Say Nothing At All," which was made into a hit by both Keith Whitley and Alison Krauss. Those are just some of the massive hits he penned.

The Stanley Brothers started making music in 1947 and have been country music icons for decades. The surprise is that they were not previously inducted.

Tim McGraw is an immensely popular singer, of course, and has placed 14 studio albums in the top five on the Billboard 200 charts. Four have reached No. 1. 13 of his albums have reached the top spot on the country charts. He has had 25 No. 1 singles on the country rankings.

The formal ceremony to induct Tim McGraw, Paul Overstreet, and the Stanley Brothers will occur later in the year. As opposed to other music halls of fame, the Country Hall limits how many performers, songwriters, or any others involved in the industry to only three each year. This makes the process a bit more worthwhile. For Taylor Swift, she will likely be inducted one day, just not yet.
