Manic Street Preachers songs 50 - 41

50. “Hazelton Avenue”

From 2010’s Postcards from a Young Man, this mid-to-late-career riff stands up to some of the group’s best.

49. “Australia”

This single from the group’s 1996 opus Everything Must Go boasts one of their most soaring choruses.

48. “The Masses Against the Classes”

The group’s second (and final) No. 1 U.K. hit showcases their sloganeering lyrics.

47. “You Love Us”

A classic anthem from the group’s debut album Generation Terrorists. For diehards, the rougher-around-the-edges “Heavenly Version” is preferred.

46. “Ocean Spray”

The only entry herein from the band’s 2001 album, Know Your Enemy, boasts a sterling melody and a wonderful trumpet solo courtesy of Sean Moore.

45. Postcards from a Young Man

A wonderful, chunky guitar riff from Bradfield buoys track two from their underrated 2010 album.

44. “Motown Junk”

One of the group’s most iconic early punk anthems, the snottiness and disdain for modern hagiographies is apparent right out of the gate when listening to this blistering track.

43. “Mausoleum”

Arguably featuring the most tongue-twisting set of lyrics from a group known for their knotty phrasing, the melody combined with Edwards’ stunning poetry makes this a standout from the group’s seminal 1994 release, The Holy Bible, which is part of one of the best two-album runs ever.

42. “A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun”

A catchy and delightful deep cut from Postcards that still sounds fresh 16 years after release.

41. “Prologue to History”

Kicking off the group’s B-sides and rarities compilation Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of Manic Street Preachers is this clarion call to arms. “I don’t want to be a Prologue to History!”
