Manic Street Preachers songs 40 – 31
40. “Some Kind of Nothingness”
A duet with Echo & the Bunnymen lead singer Ian McCulloch, this notable single is the best song from Postcards.
39. “Stay Beautiful”
“Why don’t you just—*guitar squeal*” Removing a vulgar affront in favor of a catchy guitar riff was a clever twist from this early single from Generation Terrorists.
38. “Donkeys”
Originally released as a B-side to the group’s 1993 single “Roses in the Hospital” (from the band’s second album, Gold Against the Soul), this track boasts some striking imagery (“eyes bare piss holes in the snow,” “sweetness bent double”) and a sterling guitar solo courtesy of Bradfield during the outro.
37. “Little Baby Nothing”
A potent number featuring Bradfield duetting with adult film star Traci Lords, the lyrics are powerful and the melody is gorgeous. A strong early single from the band.
36. “International Blue”
The best track from the Manics’ 2018 album Resistance Is Futile, as well as one of the best songs from the group’s past 15 years, this track boasts an arena-ready chorus and a huge, sprawling guitar riff. Simply classic Manics.
35. “Door to the River”
Originally intended for Know Your Enemy, this gossamer reverie instead debuted on the group’s first greatest hits package, 2002’s Forever Delayed.
34. “Just a Kid”
This underrated “Ocean Spray” B-side perfectly captures the confusing yet wide-open freedom of being “Just a Kid.”
33. “Enola/Alone”
An all-time classic riff from Everything Must Go, this power-pop track helps position the album as one of the group’s three masterpieces.
32. “Your Love Alone Is Not Enough”
This sprightly duet with Nina Persson of the Cardigans is a highlight from 2007’s Send Away the Tigers. It hit #2 on the U.K. Singles chart at its peak.
31. “Life Becoming a Landslide”
The first track herein from the group’s 1993 sophomore release Gold Against the Soul is a beautiful ballad with harrowing and vulnerable lyrics courtesy of Richey Edwards (who inspired Christian Bale for his role in The Bride!).
