Two legendary rock bands offer fantastic career-ending retrospectives
By Lee Vowell
Music documentaries and retrospectives can be extremely hit-and-miss. One can likely tell a record company or media company trying to make a quick buck off of a cheap doc about a band. The best are well-filmed and well-written, of course. The worst seemingly have no idea what the music of the band is supposed to sound like.
Two future retrospectives or reissues from two legendary rock bands promise to be very good, however. The first is the Allman Brothers Band doing a three-disc set of their final concert. The set is called, simply, Final Concert 10-28-14. The discs will consist of the three different sets of the final show the band produced.
The discs will be released on October 25 and were recorded at New York City's Beacon Theatre. Fans of the band are being promised that the sound will be remixed to the most pristine possible. There appear to be 30 songs curated for the three discs.
The Allman Brothers Band and Kiss working of new retrospectives that are quite enticing
Another band that is producing a retrospective documentary is Kiss. The details of what the doc will encompass is a little murkier. Paul Stanley tweeted a photo of his wife being interviewed for the documentary that is supposed to take place over five parts. The subject of the doc is following the band on their final tour which began in 2019 and ended in 2023.
The odd part is that Kiss fans do not know yet where they will be able ot watch the doc or even who is producing it. Five episodes is a lot so someone is pouring a lot of money into having the doc made. Stanley's tease is interesting, but fans might be a bit miffed that there are no more details.
That should come soon, though. Meanwhile, if you missed the real musicians of Kiss live, you can catch the hologram avatar show that the band is releasing in 2027. The inspiration for the show is one ABBA made previously, and that turned out to be fairly immersive. Hopefully, Stanley, Gene Simmons, and friends can make the same kind of magic.
