Jack White and his ex-wife, Meg White (Jack took Meg's last name), formed one of the greatest duos in the history of rock music. The White Stripes had a stripped-down sound of guitar and drums, but somehow managed to take those basic elements and create iconic songs and albums.
In fact, the pairing was so excellent that the White Stripes will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8. The question many are asking, though, is whether Meg will be at the ceremony, or maybe if the band will perform at all?
Since disbanding in 2011, Meg White has chosen to live a quiet life in Detroit. She hasn't played anywhere, hasn't posted on social media, and has not tried to remain a voice in the music industry. Jack White has, of course. He has continued to make great music, only with different bands, and full bands at that.
Whites Stripes mum on whether Meg White will appear at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony
Whatever the decision Meg has made about playing with Jack at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, the band and the band's representatives are keeping it hush-hush. There is also no word on whether Jack will go it alone, as Meg doesn't want to partake in the show.
If the White Stripes don't play, they wouldn't be the first inductees to not perform. Axl Rose chose to sit out Guns N' Roses' induction in 2012, and guitarist (and Rock Hall board member) Tom Morello was the one member of Rage Against the Machine to appear for their induction in 2023.
Jack White could do some songs without Meg White, of course, but he understands that the integrity of the music might suffer. Meg, after all, was an underrated drummer who did much more than keep the beat while Jack propelled the tracks forward.
Fans of the White Stripes might not know if Meg White will appear at the November 8 ceremony until they tune in to watch. Fans can do that by streaming the show on Disney+ live beginning at 8 pm ET.
