If anyone doubted where Belle and Sebastian, those indie-pop giants, came from, there should be no doubt now. They are Scottish and dang proud of it, as they should be. To help their national football team's fans get even more hyped for the World Cup, the band has dropped a single in honor of the event.
Scotland snuck into the biggest sporting event in the world, surprisingly. No one gave them much of a chance, but after defeating Denmark late last year, the Scots are back in the World Cup after a 28-year absence.
Is the Belle and Sebastian tune good? Well, yeah, because nearly anything the Scottish band produces is at least solid. The track for the football tournament is called "It Only Takes One Lion," which refers to the national team's badge featuring a lion rampant.
Belle and Sebastian are here to help prep for the World Cup
The video that accompanies the track is extremely well done. If you feel any emotion about the Scottish national team, you will probably get the feels. The lyrics are bracingly straightforward at times, but they work. The music is peppy and fun, as it should be.
Heck, if you are looking for a team to pull for in the World Cup, the Belle and Sebastian tune might be enough for you to find a home. At least, for a short time.
To be truthful, the group that Scotland is in is fairly brutal. Brazil is one of the favorites to win the World Cup. Morocco is also one of the four, and they are ranked in FIFA's top ten. To round out the group is Haiti, who Scotland should be better than. The issue might come down to how closely the team can play Brazil and Morocco.
But as the Belle and Sebastian track implies, no one should be counting out Scotland. No matter how much the odds are stacked against them.
