Taylor Swift will always be rightfully known for her legendary songs. She wrote them, recorded them, delivered them with excellence in concert, and earned her way to being the most popular entertainer in the world. And she is only 35 years old.
But Swift isn't afraid to do a cover of a song, either, especially in concert. She will often do this while having the original artist on stage with her. This was the case with 1980s rock star Bryan Adams in Toronto in 2018 during her Reputation tour.
Adams might have turned into a performer better-known for a couple of sappy ballads, such as "( Everything I Do) I Do It for You," but before that, he was somewhat of a Canadian John Mellencamp. Adams didn't sing so much about the Canadian wheat fields, but he offered a bit of nostalgia in his tunes.
Bryan Adams talks about the time Taylor Swift covered "Summer of '69"
Perhaps none was better than his "Summer of '69." It's a fun, full-throated rock tune that reached No. 5 on the US Billboard charts in 1985. The song has been covered by lots of different artists, but, according to Adams, most didn't match the original. Taylor Swift's version did, though.
Speaking with Guitar World, Adams explained the time that Swift asked Adams to be a guest at her 2018 show. Together on stage, the paid performed "Summer of '69" and Swift took lead vocals and Adams happily did harmony. The live version was seemingly much better than Adams anticipated.
He said, "There’s been all kinds of people who have taken the songs and remixed, rearranged, re-recorded, and done their versions, but very seldom has anyone beaten the original. The only person I can think of who did a version of ‘Summer of ’69’, and did such justice wasTaylor Swift."
Bryan Adams also detailed how Taylor Swift and he only had time to rehearse the song once, and that it still came out well during the concert. This appeared to be a sign that Swift knew the song extremely well, which obviously pleased Adams. It should. Anytime one artist likes another artist's song enough to play it live, it should be an honor.
