The four-year wait for a new Afghan Whigs album is almost over. While dropping a new single, "Jungle Roux," the band also released the news about when the new record will come out and when the tour will begin to support the record.
The name of the album is Soft Control, which is borrowed from a quote from David Bowie about aging in such a way that a person becomes the human being they were always meant to be (time controls and changes everything, of course), and the tour kicks off in Europe before heading to North America. Ticket information is below. The album drops on August 21 from Royal Cream/BMG.
The album will consist of 10 songs, which appear to have been whittled down from the 22 the band had ready to go. Perhaps this means the Afghan Whigs will take what's left over and soon release a second record from the group. Or maybe the tracks will be part of a bonus package in the future.

As for "Jungle Roux," the song is an exceedingly catchy, fairly straightforward rocker with background vocals that feel a bit out of the 1970s. You might find yourself clapping along to the percussion about halfway through. It's fun.

As for the newly announced fall tour dates, they begin in full on September 19 in Leeds, England. The band heads back to the United States at the beginning of November with a stop in Orlando. General public tickets will be made available on Friday, June 5, at 10 am local time.
