Alex Lifeson drops what he thinks is the most perfect Rush album

No alarms and no surprises.

Rush certainly changed the musical landscape beginning in the mid-1970s. The Canadian prog-rockers always searched for their own sound, even though record executives might have wanted them to go in a different direction.

The band might have had a solid base of fans at the start, but the audience wasn't enormous. That would come many albums into their career. The band built their following by working through sounds that would fully blossom by their third or fourth record, and transposing the songs into epic live performances.

Saying which Rush album is the greatest might mean the start of an argument, though. Each fan likely has their own list. As for the band itself, guitarist Alex Lifeson has a strong opinion about which of the records worked best.

Rick Beato asked Lifeson on the host's eponymous podcast, "If you had to pick one record, where you feel like the songs and the production really were married together perfectly...what record would that be?"

Lifeson answered, "I'd probably say Moving Pictures because that's exactly what that record is. That record was a joy to make. We had so much fun making it. It was a cold winter in Quebec when we made it, but there's something about the sound of that record and the style of writing...there's just a uniformity in it, and yet, every song is different."

Every song is different, especially when one spends time listening to the depth and quality of Rush's music, as demonstrated by albums like Moving Pictures. Live, though, is where the band really makes its bones. They are currently on an expansive tour, and the dates are below (if you can find tickets).
