CHVRCHES has a new album, All the King's Men, dropping in January 2027, and the expectation set by the band is that the songs will be less reliant on synths and have a more guitar-driven sound. The lyrics should remain relatively introspective, though. That is the CHVRCHES way.

The first single from the new album was called "Roses," and it definitely delivered on the guitar part. It was edgier, harder, and unlike most other tracks the band had previously released. To make sure fans understood that the new record would be layered, the second single, "Overthinker," goes in a different direction.

To be sure, though, only slightly. The lyrics are about family dynamics and relationship stresses. It's confessional, but defiant. Instead of guitar rock, the sound is more like the band's first LP, but it diverges into a louder, purer rock chorus.

CHVRCHES second single from their upcoming album is excellent

One will likely get goosebumps. The track is exceptionally well-written and well-sung. Lauren Mayberry's vocals aren't buried but rightfully stand out because their importance is quite high for the track, and the production is elite.

That has always been one of the best parts about CHVRCHES' music. Maybe not everyone will agree that their songs are bits of alternative rock bliss, but no one can doubt how good the sound is. Lessons can be learned from the band's albums, though longtime fans will find the depth of the tracks immense.

One should also be prepared while listening to "Overthinker" in their car because one will find themselves singing along, but at full-throated volume. This won't be the kind of track one sings quietly. It will force you to nearly scream in rage, while also understanding that the lyrics aren't about anger. They are about the pressure of needing to be understood.

All the King's Men will be released on January 22, 2027. The album will be the band's fifth studio album, but their first since 2021's Screen Violence. It was recorded in the group's native Scotland.

CHVRCHES is also on tour beginning February 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a presale is already underway. General public tickets go on sale on Friday, October 20, at 10 am local time.
