We are all having a laugh at the couple caught on a Coldplay kiss cam at a recent Boston concert. Such is the risk for a kiss cam. The musical artist or sports team shows two people on screen, and basically dares them to kiss while the crowd cheers. In Boston, it backfired.
None of what happened is the fault of Chris Martin and Coldplay, though. The production crew sees a couple snuggled up and turns a camera on them. If a couple isn't looking like they like each other, we probably aren't going to get to see them.
At the Gillette Stadium show, the camera showed a white-haired man holding a woman as both were turned toward the stage. Immediately after realizing they were being seen by thousands of people, the lady turned around with her hands over her face (though she appeared to be laughing), and the man walked forward out of view.
Coldplay couple ruins lives
Give props to Chris Martin because after seeing the reaction of the couple, Martin says, "Oh, look at these two. All right, come on, you’re OK! Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy." Spot on.
As it turns out, if multiple media reports are correct, the man was Andy Byron, CEO of tech company Astronomer, and the woman was Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer. (By the way, "Chief People Officer" is a weird term.) Both are married, it appears, but not to each other.
Aside from the fact that Astronomer now has a massive HR problem at the top of the company, the couple's fling is going to be costly to many people and not funny to them. The man's wife and the woman's husband have to be embarrassed by a situation they did not cause, and have a right to be hurt and angry.
Just as bad is how investors and partners are going to view Astronomer now. Other companies might pull away from Astronomer, as they don't want to be linked with the fiasco Byron and Cabot caused, and that could lead to less money for the company and people losing their jobs because Byron and Cabot couldn't control themselves and honor their commitments.
While we all laugh devilishly at the couple caught cheating, we might also want to remember the innocent people who will be hurt by what they did. Moreover, if you are going to cheat on your significant other and go to a concert, just try to steer away from where the cameras are pointed.
