Cowboy hats, more insults, and a Hall of Fame nod for Oasis

Liam Gallagher’s old barbs and new thoughts attract attention.

There are lots of ways to secure a nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Taking a swipe at the Hall wouldn't be the normal approach. It hasn't stopped Oasis, who have just been included in the 17-strong nominations list for2026, their third consecutive year.

We can expect plenty of positive PR from this year's list of nominees over the coming weeks and months. With that in mind, the Gallagher brothers and Oasis should be delighted with their nomination. But sharp comments from Liam may mean they need to think carefully about a charm offensive if they are to make it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year.

After an epic comeback for Oasis in 2025, they deserve their nomination. They certainly made a huge impact with their return to the music scene with a series of live shows. Their first since 2009. The Oasis Live ’25 Tour was a phenomenal success.

They performed brilliantly at 41 sold-out dates, grossing over $400 million. Crowds of around 2.5 million saw them play, though demand was considerably higher. In the UK and Ireland, over 14 million tried to buy tickets.

Oasis singer Liam Gallagher takes swipes at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Can they carry that momentum forward and be successful with their nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Well, the forthright brothers tend to do their own thing and speak their mind. Liam wasn't that complimentary about the selection process after he and the band were nominated this time last year. The singer hasn't got off to a good start this time either.

Liam took a few swipes at the Hall of Fame on X.com last year, when they had been nominated. He hit out, saying he wasn't interested anyway and didn't want an award from  "some geriatric in a cowboy hat."

His rant continued as he added another post declaring, “F*** the Rock n Roll hall of fame it's full of BUMBACLARTS LG x.” I’m not sure even he knows what a Bumbaclart is anyway, but it doesn't sound like a compliment. And just in case he hadn't made his point clearly, he added a further post noting “RNR hall of fame is for W*****S." Liam hasn't exactly welcomed the 2026 nomination either.

As that post from fan account OasisWorld reports, Liam's opening response was "Oh no, not again." Reminded of some of last year's comments, he did clarify that he'd join in the celebrations and party hard if they were successful this time around.

That suggests he is more receptive this year, but time will tell. Oasis proved themselves again last year, and there will be much more to follow up on the band's reunion.

The Hall of Fame voting allows fans, industry executives, music journalists, and others to all have a say.  That will likely mean those past comments will be largely ignored. Unless the brothers hit out yetagain, of course, and who would bet against that given their track record?
