Bad Bunny has suddenly become a divisive figure simply because he likes where he comes from and sings in Spanish. He has made choices that he hopes protect his fans, and he gets disrespected for it. The performer has said he won't tour in the United States soon because he is concerned about ICE raids at his concerts.
Some don't like his approach. That includes, randomly, former NASCAR failure Danica Patrick. Patrick, it seems, feels that no one only singing Spanish-language songs should be a featured performer on any highly-viewed program in the United States.
One assumes this means events such as the Oscars and the Super Bowl. Bad Bunny, after all, was chosen to be the halftime performer of Super Bowl LX (which is the Super Bowl that will be played in February of 2026, if you are keeping score at home). The pushback has been great.
Danica Patrick is clearly not a fan of Bad Bunny (and why she is wrong)
Some don't like that Bad Bunny has chosen not to do a tour in 2026 in the United States (and some have claimed quite wrongly that he "canceled" his tour because he is "anti-ICE"), while some don't like that he has "no songs in English." Also, for the record, "Where She Goes" does have some lyrics in English.
The hip-hop pop icon doesn't have to do any tunes in Spanish, however. His first language is Spanish, as he is from Puerto Rico, and he isn't going to sell out by creating English-language tunes just to build a wider audience.
Oh, and this part is important: Bad Bunny is a United States citizen. If a person is from Puerto Rico, a US territory, then they are citizens of the US.
Danica Patrick, who won an IndyCar race but never one in NASCAR, seems to dislike that, though. She posted on X/Twitter, "No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports."
What a weird sentiment in general, and, to be fair, bigoted. It could be argued that maybe Patrick is saying that Patrick is saying some songs that aren't in English are OK. She did write, "No songs in English should not be allowed..." (Ironically, someone who appears to only want songs in English performed at well-viewed events doesn't seem to understand how the language works.)
What we have lost sight of is the fact that music can and should bring people together, not divide them. Millions will watch Bad Bunny's halftime show and be entertained. They should. Music is art, and Bad Bunny is good at it.
