David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen are finally reuniting (but not how fans dreamed)

Close, but no cigar...

David Lee Roth hasn't performed with Alex Van Halen since October 4, 2015, almost exactly five years before Eddie Van Halen died. Most Van Halen fans always want more Diamond Dave connected to the group, and while Roth and Alex will team up soon, it isn't necessarily in the way fans want.

Instead of a musical performance, Roth and Alex Van Halen will be part of the TEDxFARGO event that will take place in Fargo, North Dakota, at the Brewhalla location. That will occur on Thursday, July 30. If you can't make the event, it will be streamed on YouTube, but not for a few weeks after the talk.

Roth and Van Halen are far from the only people who will be involved. Over the two-day event, as many as 40 speakers will drop their respective knowledge on those in attendance. Seemingly, Van Halen and Roth won't be alone either. They will be joined by artist Robert Vargas, a close friend of Alex's.

David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen team up, but not for a musical event

One of the positives of the TED Talk is that it at least proves Roth is healthy. The icon recently canceled all of his upcoming tour dates for unknown reasons. One, such as Sammy Hagar, might have safely assumed that Roth was ill. Maybe ticket sales were an issue, though that was not reported to be so.

After learning of the cancellation of the run of shows from Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Hagar took to social media to not only wish Roth well but also invite the initial Van Halen singer to join the singer who followed him in a residency in Las Vegas. Roth has not responded publicly at this time.

Perhaps he will do so during the Fargo discussion. That might be unusual, but David Lee Roth has always carved his own path. Without any scheduled musical concerts of his own coming up, maybe he chooses to tell his devotees gathered together in Fargo that he will be teaming up with another former member of the legendary band, Hagar. Let's hope.

As for Alex Van Halen, he has mostly eschewed doing public events ever since he released his memoir in 2024. That was called Brothers, which was about his relationship with Eddie, of course, but also the drama and celebrations of Van Halen. The book is well-written and well-conceived, so if you love rock bios, it is worth your time to buy and read.
