Dolly Parton is able to do less these days, but there is hope for improvement. The 80-year-old country music icon has seemingly been dealing with kidney stones for almost a year, and had an infection as part of the problem. That was partly why she had to postpone a Las Vegas residency originally slated for last December.
The six shows were then pushed to this September, but have now been cancelled. Parton announced the run's fate on her Instagram account, but offered fans that, ultimately, she believes she will be just fine. Don't expect a rescheduling of the Las Vegas dates, though.
Parton said in a video, "The good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments, and I’m improving every day. Now the bad news is, it’s going to take me a little while before I’m up to stage-performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a lit' bit swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say."
Dolly Parton forced to cancel Las Vegas residency due to health concerns
She added that her doctors have told her that "everything I have is treatable," but that it will take some time for her immune system to rebuild. That means rest, and no shows for the foreseeable future, it seems.
The legend hasn't done a full tour since 2016, though he has produced records. After learning of her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, she decided she should release a "rock" album. Otherwise, she didn't feel worthy of the induction. That is how the world got Rockstar in 2023.
Dolly Parton is also still working on her Broadway musical, Dolly: A True Original Musical, which is due to open in late 2026. The performer is also striving to open a museum and hotel in Nashville soon.
In other words, while Parton might not be playing a residency in Las Vegas, nor going on an extended tour, she is fairly busy. The hope, of course, is that she will continue to improve and be able to keep performing concerts.
And that isn't just for fans, either. Musicians love to play to the masses, of course, and Dolly Parton has always been terrific in that aspect. Assuming she wants to keep doing shows, let's hope she recovers from her health problems enough to get back to where she was before.
