But how much?

Pop star Dua Lipa has had many photos taken of her, of course. All celebrities do. One taken of her backstage at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2024 might have ended up in a place she didn't want it to.

Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against TV manufacturer Samsung in California, claiming that the photograph taken at the festival, an image she reportedly has the rights to, was used on the cardboard packaging of Samsung televisions. Based on a photo tweeted by Pop Crave, there appears to be a case.

The pop star's suit claims that Samsung was able to profit from her image, the assumption being that the company sold more TVs than they normally would have because Dua Lipa was allegedly on the box.

According to NME, some on social media have commented that they purchased a television simply because Lipa was part of the packaging. An implication also exists that some would have assumed Lipa gave her permission for the image to be used, therefore implying that she is endorsing the brand.

The lawsuit states, "Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever. Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use."

If Samsung did indeed use Dua Lipa's image for a photograph that has the rights to and then added it to a lot of cardboard boxes, then someone will clearly be in trouble at the company. That kind of thing seems easy to check, and obviously should have been. That is, of course, if Samsung intentionally used the image to sell TVs.

Besides the lawsuit, Lipa has been busy. She performed alongside Tame Impala at the O2 in London recently and was involved in the London Literature Festival. She hasn't dropped a new album since 2024, though. Radical Optimism did reach No. 2 in the United States and No. 1 in the UK, but after initially solid sales, those regressed.

Dua Lipa has also appeared in numerous movie projects, too, of course. That includes being part of the cast for Peaked, a film in post-production which also stars Connor Storrie and Laura Dern.
