It is easy for one to sit behind their computer and create harsh words against some famous person they will never know or talk to. But that is the kind of culture that social media creates. Bots, or worse, real people, comment on the appearances and alleged faults of well-known people.
This is the case with recent posters directing their venom toward Selena Gomez. If one is a fan of the excellent series Only Murders in the Building, they will have noticed that Gomez has lost weight. Does that mean she was unattractive before? Of course, not. Only that she has undergone a change.
But many on social media do not seem capable of understanding that entertainers are people, too. It is fine to comment on someone's work, but attacking them personally is weak. Unless one knows another, the vitriol is mean-spirited and crass.
Grimes stands up for Selena Gomez in the best of ways
Grimes was having none of the Gomez disrespect, though. One person commented on Gomez's appearance in her video, "In the Dark," and stated she looked like an "X Files monster." (The obvious note here is the creepiness of one person on social media commenting on one's looks when people will never see the person make the remark.)
Grimes not only pushed back on the specific post but also reposted the comment with her own lengthy thoughts. Her truth was greater.
She wrote, in part, "I've been in the internet for like 48 hours and despite minor benefits I might have to leave. Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls."

She also rightfully pointed out that young girls might run across the original post, or other thoughts like it, and have a disillusioned view of the human form. Not that bots and bullies on social media care much about that. They would rather try to upset others, all the while being the worst of humanity. Can we all get along? No, because the weak-minded people on social media won't allow it, sadly.
